Asia Biologicals Summit 2026 Organized by Agrifood Futures
On October 26, SAS participated in an event to exchange perspectives on the future of agricultural biotechnology in Asia, called “Asia Biologicals Summit 2026,” under the theme “Turning Biological Innovation into Real-World Adoption Across Asia.” The event brought together experts, researchers, and leaders in the biologicals industry from various countries to exchange opinions on target crops, including rice, cassava, and cocoa.
Key Highlight Speakers at the Event
Dr. William Dar – Former Secretary of Agriculture of the Philippines
Dr. Yvonne Pinto – Director General, IRRI (International Rice Research Institute)
Marion Martinez – Senior Vice President Biologicals, Yara
Siang Hee Tan – Executive Director, CropLife Asia
Representatives from BASF, Syngenta, and CABI (Commonwealth Agricultural Bureaux International)
Key Points from the Event
“Science Must Keep Pace” – stated by Dr. Yvonne Pinto, Director General, IRRI
“Investment in Biological Agriculture is currently increasing significantly. Therefore, we must accelerate research to develop biological products that keep pace with current developments. These biological products must be practical and demonstrate clear results when compared under real-world conditions (Scientific Validation). At the same time, ecological safety must also be considered to demonstrate product responsibility (Responsible Innovation).”
Topics Discussed by Participants at the Event and Expected to Be Put into Practice
Science & Evidence – Field trial results will serve as important evidence to confirm the effectiveness of agricultural biological products.
Sustainable Agriculture – The application of biological technologies to promote sustainable agriculture, reduce environmental impacts, and increase production efficiency.
Collaboration & Market Development – Collaboration among the research sector, industry, and farmers to drive innovation toward practical application.
Microbial Innovation – The development and selection of microorganisms with specific properties to improve agricultural productivity.
In conclusion, the direction of the Biologicals industry in Asia is moving toward the creation of an ecosystem that connects three key sectors: Science, Policy, and Industry, to enable agricultural biotechnology to grow and be practically applied at the regional level.
